Requirements: Geo -Referenced data set.
Here we consider reference network used in Sri Lanka. There are three different reference systems have been used since the early stages of mapping process in Sri Lanka. Namely the conventional method, Kandawala system and the most latest SLD99 coordinate system.
In recent past SLD99 is the latest and more frequently used system, but there are some spatial data which referenced to the Kandawala datum.
We are not going to discuss more about these reference systems at the moment ,expect it from another post.
our target is to show the process in opening a drawing file in Google Earth with the help of ARC GIS or QGIS.
Process from ARC GIS
Sample data: Detail Survey by RTK method. Data in SLD 99 Coordinate System
Step 1.
Import the DXF (Save the drawing file in .DXF format) file to ARC map as different features (as point, line, polygon, etc.) The layer doesn’t contain any spatial reference system but it is in SLD 99 spatial reference according as we know.
